PHUKET, THAILAND – Road cyclists from all over the globe participated in the Third Thanyapura Phuket Classic Cycling competition in two distances: the 45-kilometre and the advanced 106-kilometre on 29 January, 2017. The race, launched and organised by Thanyapura Health & Sports Resort, consists of routes along North Phuket’s lush jungles, mountains, scenic roads, and exotic coastlines. It started from Khao Phra Thaeo National Park and turns at two locations: Sarasin Bridge (45 km) and Masjid Ban Nai Yong in Phang Nga (106 km). Two members of the Thanyapura Pro Triathlon Team, Eimear Mullan and Ritchie Nicholls, competed in the race.
Jürgen Zäck of Germany, first place winner in the Classic 106 km (Male Open Category, 02:34:54.8), said, “I didn’t expect anything when I entered the race because there were a lot of good athletes. I was just happy to be in the breakaway and enjoying the scenery. I think Thanyapura picked the best race that is possible to Phang Nga. I’m coming back next year.”

Eimear Mullan of Ireland, first place winner in the Classic 106 km (Female Open Category, 02:43:04.0) said, “I’m really happy here to have won the race at Thanyapura. It’s my first ever, my first race since the end of 2015 because I was recovering from injury. I didn’t prepare specifically for this race; I have been training since after my long injury in November. Things are progressing, and I’m getting a little bit better. I’m ready for some triathlons later on the season.”
Ritchie Nicholls of Scotland finished at fourth place with a time of 02:35:05.8.
